Thursday Thirteen (22nd)

North Dakota:

It Really Is One Of The 50 States!

There are too many for one Thursday Thirteen.
Part 2 of 3

You might be from North Dakota:

1. If you think a grain elevator constitutes a skyline . . .

2. If the closest thing to a forest is a field with shelterbelts . . .

3. If you think the state tree is a telephone pole and the state bird is a mosquito . . .

4. If you claim to be able to stand on a beer can and see the whole state . . .

5. If the idea of snow in June doesn't surprise you . . .

6. If you keep Civil Defense candy from the 1950s in your car's winter emergency kit .

7. If you design your Halloween costumes to fit over snowmobile suits . . .

8. If you know the four seasons--Winter, Still Winter, Not Winter, and Almost Winter

9. If the only visitors you had in January were the two snowmen in the front yard . . .

10. If you don't think it's cold unless your eyelashes stick together when you blink . . .

11. If you consider the wind "calm" from 0-15 mph, "kinda breezy" from 15-30 mph, and "kinda windy" for more than 30 mph . . .

12. If you consider the temperature "OK" down to -10 F., "kinda chilly" from -10 to -20 F., "chilly" from -20 to -30 F., and "kinda cold" for more than -30 F. . .

13. If you've ridden the school bus for an hour each way.

Yup, I've heard this before about ND.

Thanks for the funny post this week.

I enjoyed the last 13. Very entertaining this time around. Maybe in part three you should include, "You might be from North Dakota if you have a great sense of humor." How else would any sane person survive all the wind, snow, and cold?

Yes, the weather! My DH had an unexpected detour to ND once on a business trip, and got off the plane with nothing but a light jacket, in JANUARY. He thought he'd die before he could get out! Great TT!

I'm laughing and wincing at the same time. I don't think the North Dakota Visitor's Bureau will be hiring you soon. ;-) You're going to have to do a post on what keeps you in ND because I'm betting there are lots of wonderful things that tie you there.

Happy first anniversary! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I've seen this list before - but not with ND associated with it.

Usually it's got a Canadian city attached. Most often that's Winnipeg - where the mosquitos are so big they could carry children away!

Brrr what a cold paradise ! When I crossed North Dakota in 1971, children were picked up in airplanes to bring them to school ! That's at least what I have been told. But I remember that we drove miles and miles and miles from one "house" to the other !

Happy blogivesary, too.

The only one I can relate to is mosquitos all year round, and riding the bus an hour each way. Did that when I was a kid. Of course it took me about 20 minutes to walk to the bus stop, AFTER they moved it closer to my house 3 times.

I'm getting cold just thinking about the weather you just described! Snow is beautiful, and we don't get enough of it down here in the south where I am....but I think I'd only want it in the actual three winter months!

Unfortunately, most southern states could probably claim the mosquito as their state bird as well. I hate those things!
